The only difference is that these days he&#39s writing stories as well as reading them.

After penning countless tales of his own for magazines, the 71 year-old Mr Sparhawk now has his first novel coming out. &#34Vixen &#34 published by Cosmos Books of Rockville, will begin shipping this month, although its official release date is in December. It&#39s written under his pen name of Bud Sparhawk.

Publisher John Betancourt said &#34Vixen &#34 should have wide appeal.

&#34It&#39s a great science-fiction book for the thinking reader,&#34 he said. &#34It&#39s an interesting, idea-driven book. &#34

Mr Sparhawk said &#34Vixen&#39 takes its name from one of the key female characters in the book. The plot concerns an interstellar ship that s due to colonize another world, and the book contains elements of &#34high opera, romance, hard science, and mystery, &#34 he said.

The Vice President of a small Montgomery County consulting company by day, Mr Sparhawk typically writes for a few hours each night. &#34It&#39s a compulsion,&#34 he chuckled.

Asked about his idols in science fiction he paused a moment and replied, &#34I haven&#39t met (an author) I didn&#39t like. &#34

Copyright &copy John C.
