My misspent youth was passed in California and Oregon, growing my hair long, protesting everything and gathering useless academic degrees before realizing the true "work of my heart" was storytelling. In between all this, I studied martial arts (tai chi chuan with Marshall Ho'o and kung fu san soo with Jimmy H. Woo), taught physiology, lived in France, and struggled to maintain a literary career as a single working mom. Now I live in a redwood forest with my second husband, writer Dave Trowbridge, and practice yoga and piano to give my brain a break from writing. I'm also active in the local Quaker and Jewish communities.
