I went down to Twice Sold Tales, a really nifty used bookstore, and picked up a copy of Remake by Connie Willis, and short story collections by Grace Paley, Somerset Maugham, and Guy de Maupassant. I was going to buy some P.G. Wodehouse, but Daniel had snagged the last one. I figure I have enough reading material for my looooong flight to Baltimore next week. Yeow. Next week. By this time next week I will be in my hotel in Baltimore for Worldcon. But anyway, on the way back from the bookstore, we stopped and got ice cream, since it's up in the 90s here now. Look, I don't mind it being hot. I'm a southerner--I can take it. I do mind the fact that no one up here has any of the magic boxes that suck hot air in and spit cold air out. The dorm is totally sweltering, especially on the side I'm on, and especially during the afternoon. I actually broke down and bought a fan yesterday--an el cheapo $8 fan, but at least it keeps the air moving. * * * * * I'm trying to finish up my last story today. Yet another "something different"--this time weird-ass literary crap that has vague aspirations of being sfnal. After I turn it in tomorrow I will be an official lame duck Clarioner, and can then sit back and do neato stuff like pack. |
