I came home from work Sunday morning at about 6am and let Zeus out to go pee. He trotted off to do his business, then suddenly I saw a white blur streak by, followed closely by a 95-pound black and tan blur. I'm still not sure how this rabbit got into my yard, but it led Zeus on one hell of a chase through the yard and under the house. Zeus barrelled under the house after it, causing an unbelievable amount of commotion, while I (still in uniform) was trying to shine my flashlight under the house to see where the heck the rabbit had gone. I think it must have escaped from under the house fairly quickly, but Zeus continued to crawl around under the house for a good thirty minutes before I was able to coax him out. I finally got the filthy beast inside and figured that was the end of the story--that the rabbit had gotten away. Until I woke up that afternoon and found the rabbit sitting on my steps. Once again Zeus was after the rabbit, but this time the rabbit ran into the garage and I was able to close the door, locking the rabbit in and the dog out. So, the rabbit is now in Zeus's dog-crate. It's a true albino rabbit, so I'm sure it's someone's pet that escaped. I'm hoping I can find the owner, otherwise I'm going to have to find a home for it. It's adorable, but considering how badly my dog wanted to have rabbit for breakfast the other morning, I think that keeping the rabbit is simply Right Out. ![]() We weren't terribly busy for Halloween, in fact it was surprisingly dead from about 11pm til 3am. There were hardly even any cars on the road, much less people. There was a light drizzle which might have accounted for the scarcity of crime and criminals, but even so, for a weekend, it was pretty dead. It's frustrating for me when it gets that slow, because it's tough to learn how to handle calls if you don't get any calls. However, nightwatch is over, and when I go back to work on Wednesday it'll be on days. (For two weeks, that is. Then it flips back to nights. Every two weeks we switch.) I'll also actually start working when I go back on Wednesday. The past two weeks have been what they call "limbo," where the trainee basically just sits back and watches and is not scored or graded, and is not expected to do anything except watch, learn, and ask questions. But now I'll start actually handling calls (with my FTO there to back me up and correct my mistakes.) Tomorrow I have to go shoot the shotgun again. This is the annual shotgun qualifications that everyone has to go through. I'd hoped that I'd have a year or so before having to shoot the damn thing again, but no such luck. Hell, the bruise from my first qualification just healed, and now I've got to do it again. Ugh. But at least I'll get overtime. |
