![]() The Amazing Kurt Roth jams at World Fantasy. ![]() I found another six-legged friend this morning, but this one was already on its back and in what appeared to be final death throes. I sprayed it anyway, and then sprayed the rest of the house. Of course then I had to open up all of the windows to let out the scent of the "Unscented" Raid. Oh, and my mother told me I should be sure to mention to you, my gentle readers, that we are not talking about the teeny, wimpy roaches of germanic descent that might, at the peak of their physical fitness, reach an inch in length. No, these are good ole Southern Roaches, sometimes called Pine Beetles, sometimes called Palmetto Bugs (but I, and everyone else down here, just call 'em Roaches), that are 2-3 inches long and will carry off your pets if you're not careful. But actually, I really don't believe the house is roach-infested. I would have seen a lot more signs of roaches if there was a real problem. Still, the exterminator is on my To Do list. ![]() The unpacking continues to progress. Most of the stuff in boxes is books, and those don't take too long to take out of a box and slap onto a shelf. And I had hot water this morning, so hopefully it was merely a fluke that the pilot went out the other day. I went grocery shopping this afternoon, and spent a ridiculous amount of money buying "basics." You know, stuff like salt and pepper, ketchup, various spices, cooking oil... This setting up a household from scratch is expensive. Every other time I've moved I've always had all of the stuff from my previous place. I think the last time I had to go through all of this was back in college, but even then I had two roommates to split the cost with. But even with all of the expense and annoyances, I'm already really enjoying being in my own place. I have ROOM! I have soooo much room to move and spread out. My dad and I discussed the plans for the built-in desk he's going to build in my office, and I just can't wait for that to be done! I'm going to have huge amounts of desk space, tons of places to pile papers. And it's very quiet out here too. There's one dog a few houses away that was barking this morning, but that was about the only annoying noise I've heard since I woke up. Of course I've been on my days off too, and maintaining a semi-normal sleep schedule. We'll see if there are any truly annoying noises when I try to sleep during the day. ![]() I'm also working on trying to join a gym. It's that time again--time for the big exercise/diet thang. Gyms are more expensive over here though, so I'm going to have to do some shopping. |
