Here I am again, working the bank detail. I tend to get most of my journal entries written while working details, since it's yet another way to kill time. I was originally only supposed to work this one from 8:30am to 1:30pm (it's a ten hour detail, and most of us split it up into two 5-hour segments.) However, the deputy who was going to work the second half just called me to tell me that he was still stuck at court, so I may end up working the whole thing today. Kindof a bummer since I'd planned on running at the Academy this afternoon, but on the other hand, I'll get 5 more hours of detail pay--and it's my favorite detail anyway. (Only real drawback to working the whole thing is that I didn't bring a lunch, so I'll have to make somene go get me something.) Oh yeah, it's going to be a real exciting entry, can't you tell. Okay, said deputy just Nexteled me to tell me that he's now leaving the court, so he will be able to make it after all. Good thing I remembered to throw my running clothes into the wash before I left this morning. Oh, god, this is a boring entry. I admit it. Nothing interesting is happening in my life. I work, I sleep, I work details, I run, I work out. Occasionally I do neato shit like laundry and dishes and vacuuming. Sometimes it really hits me in a surrealistic way that I'm an honest-to-god grownup. I guess it's because I don't have kids that I only get these flashes occasionally. But when I've spent an entire week doing fix-ups around the house, and then occupy my evenings with chores without anyone telling me to do so, I feel Grown Up. Not really Old, but definitely Mature. I know, I'm 34 and it's high time I felt like a adult. Okay now, I know you can't tell, but it's several hours later, and I actually got to go run. Twice. The instructors split the class up into two sections, and one section went and ran a mile while the other section did non-stop calisthenics--then when the running section got back, they switched places. So I ran with both sections in the attempt to get a decent run in. (One mile isn't worth getting dressed for!) I think I ended up doing about 2.5 miles by the time I ran with both sections, and also doubled back and turned around to run with the stragglers who kept wanting to stop and walk. Sheesh. And finally, in an effort to put something of interest in this entry, here's my recipe for a protein shake that's actually fairly decent and tolerable. (You have to understand that I am outrageously picky when it comes to wanting my food to taste good. I dislike the taste of aspartame intensely, and there are very few foods out there in which I can tolerate it. Therefore, my protein shakes have a few "compromises" in them, simply for the sake of making them tolerable enough that I'll actually drink them.) Two cups skim milk
Total stats of this shake:
My other "compromise" is to sometimes substitute a cup of low-fat chocolate milk for one of the cups of skim milk, which adds another 80 calories, 2.5 more grams of fat, and 15 grams of carbohydrates. I don't do that one as often since it is a lot higher in sugar, but it's also awfully close to tasting Darn Good. If I could stand the taste of nutrasweet, I'd have a lot easier time controlling my eating patterns. |
