In the journal, that is. I finally introduced J to the journal, and he's been steadily working his way through entries, starting from the very very beginning. He's making pretty good progress--up to late 1998 already (though he admitted he tends to merely skim the entries that are mostly about writing-type stuff.) However, he expressed mock-chagrin that there was very little in the way of steamy stuff in the journal. He also pointed out that it seemed like I was forever apologizing for not updating my journal more frequently. Ummmm... yeah. Well. He also finally got the chance to meet Mom, though not at all in the way I'd intended. As many of you are aware, I live less than a block away and around the corner from my mother. Well, J and I had stopped by my house so that I could let the Dog out and also so I could grab some shorts (since the plan at that moment was some sort of boating excursion later in the day.) As we were leaving, J saw a person weed-whacking the grass at the intersection (an area that would never get whacked if not for the combined efforts of the neighborhood.) "Is that your mother?" he asked. I had no choice but to say yes, since he's seen pictures and would not have believed me had I said that it was merely some deranged homeless person wandering around with a weedwhacker. It's not that I don't want J to meet my mother, and vice versa. It's just that I knew that my mother would have much preferred to have been able to present a somewhat more... er... presentable appearance. Sho nuff, J pulled up beside my mom and rolled down the window to introduce himself, at which time she gave me a glare that would have melted the polar ice cap, then smiled quite nicely to J and they proceeded to make small-talkish introductions. I'm quite sure I'm "on her list" now. I've been hearing about "the list" most of my life. I know she has it somewhere, and it contains the names and pertinent information of all the people who have Wronged Her and will Someday Pay. Actually, I've probably made it onto The List several times in my 35 years. ![]() Anyway, my next plan is to download an ftp program onto J's computer so that I can post entries from his place (since I'm spending the majority of my time there!) I'll be glad when we can finally find a suitable place to move in together--this living out of two households is tiring. (My house is not suitable since it is a]teeny tiny, and b] too far from his daughter's school.) The big obstacle we're running into with finding a suitable house is, unfortunately, Dog. We're going to have to rent (for only a year, hopefully, since I consider renting a colossal waste of money), and we need, most likely, a 4 bedroom house (to accomodate us, our jobs, and a 13-year old) with a decent-sized fenced yard (to accomodate a 100lb German Shepherd) with a landlord who doesn't squik at the thought of said Dog being in the house. |
