Welcome!

Hi! For those of you who don't know me, I've been writing fantasy, horror, and mystery fiction and poetry since the late 1970s, and have appeared on panels at Worldcons and World Fantasy Conventions on and off since 1985.

You may have seen my work in Weirdbook, Space and Time, Fantasy Book, Dreams and Nightmares, Along the River: An Anthology of Contemporary Arkansas Poetry, Undinal Songs, Fantasy Tales in England, Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine, Liavek: Spells of Binding (in collaboration with Canadian author Charles de Lint), Horsefantastic, Catfantastic III, and most recently, Sisters in Fantasy II. I'll also be in the upcoming Catfantastic V.

I write about animals, ghosts, vampires, werewolves, the environment, magic, and murder -- not necessarily in that order.

Readings are part of my repertoire; I've appeared before school groups and civic groups in dramatic readings of my own and others' work, and performed in a dramatization on the air of my ghost story, "The Bells of Aedan Marsh," for the Heart of the Ozarks Theater (H.O.T.) Company Old-Time Radio Playhouse. My poetry received a nomination for the Balrog Award, and both poetry and fiction were nominated for Small Press Writers and Artists Awards. But I'm proudest of all of my Gryphon Award -- awarded in 1990 by Andre Norton for my environmental Ozark fantasy novel A Dream of Drowned Hollow -- and my runner-up status for the 1989 Gryphon Award for my heroic fantasy novel The Ribbon-Maid (volume one of The Ribbons of Power).

I'm a member of Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, Mystery Writers of America, and the Authors Guild.
