Frequently Asked Questions

or: Why updates here take forever.

Hi there. Welcome to my homepage. If you're reading this, then you're either new here, or you're an old-timer gone mad. (Why mad? 'Cause you've got to be nuts to hang around here.)

This isn't really an FAQ. Nobody's really asked me these questions (ha. Except for the ones they actually did). But, they do give you, the random reader, a quick overview of The Way Things Are Done 'Round Here. Basically, I'm just being nice. Have fun.

Fake Questions

How often do you update?

Not often enough. I update when I can, but often there's months between each update. I have about five or six websites to care for--the last one to get my full-time attention was, well, not this one. I can only ask for patience. (And cheesecake, but that's neither here nor there.)

So . . . how do I know when you've updated?

In the far-gone past, you had to keep coming back every week, only to be cruelly disappointed... actually, come to think of it, you still have to do that. Oh well.

You mentioned other websites. Y'mind telling me them?

Why tell you them when I can link to them? The Fun Stuff section should have the lot of them -- or, at least, the ones I feel like mentioning here.

Cool. Okay, so, I know you're Thyme, but, y'know, there're a lot of Thymes out there. Have I met you?

Possibly. On the internet, I use the Thyme name mostly in X-file circles (fanfic and so on). When I'm doing Star Trek stuff, for the most part I use the name Alice Karvonen Allonway. Why? I signed a guestbook with it once, and now she's off developing her own damn personality. The Alice name is also used on Deja (where I can't use Thyme, for fear of alienating all the poor flamers on alt.star.trek.creative). Let's see . . . Lennart writes Buffyfic, Bressingham writes Harry Potter, and Mary Sue Whipple lives only on her website and in legit fiction (don't ask. If you see her name, though, you'll know she had a hand in the book somewhere). And of course, there's real life. Which is neither here nor there (especially not there).

Hey, you mentioned fanfic. Do you do anything besides write it?

Why yes. I beta read fanfic, and I'm not too damn shabby at it either. The glorious thing is, I'll beta anything. I like beta reading. Got a fic? Send it over. No problem too big, no cliche too daunting . . .

Okay, one last question. Do you do stuff other than fanfic? I mean, other other? Like, legit fiction, or theatre, or publishing, or--

Yes.

Yes? That's it? But--

Oh, I'm sorry, those're all the questions I can answer at the moment, so--

Wait a sec, you didn't answer--

--be sure to write if you've got any real questions, and the answers may--

--hey, you never answered mine--

--or may not be answered here. Thanks again. Bye now.

Real Questions

"What's with the '.htp' ending to all your pages? It's annoying, and hard to remember, and I don't know how to find the letter 'p' on my keyboard."

The lovely people at SFF.Net provide free and blessedly non-.gif hit counters. To access these counters, however, one must have a '.htp' ending on the page in question. Hence and therefore. I also enjoy the thought of you punching 'o', 'l', and '[' when typing any of my addresses too fast.

"You should make your webpage be less fanfic-oriented, because I find my amusement only through the Fun Stuff section, and wish for your site to be a giant version of that rather than what you want it to be. Why are you sending death glares at me?"

Because you have asked me to do a foolish thing. If I wished for my site to be nothing but a collection of Fun Stuff links... it would look very similar to the way it was before, up to and including the messy sorting system and lack of updating for two years. It was boring. I disliked it. TRSH, I like more. Also, this is my site. If you think it would be improved by making silly changes I disagree with... ha. There are lakes in Hell more likely to be used as skating rinks than this site changing to fit anyone else's taste. That's why Geocities exists, children. If you don't like it here, make your own damn site.
